Helen M. (Dora) Onyika

Our family is saddened by the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen M. (Dora) Onyika, 91 years young, of Clairton, whodied Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016. She was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Clairton. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sr. and Mary (Planich) Dora, and her son, Dennis J. Onyika, in 1959. She was the middle child of six brothers, John Jr., Joseph, Michael, George, Edward and William. Helen was married for 43 years to the late Julius J. Onyika, who died in 1989. They made their home in Clairton. Her husband worked in the maintenance department at U.S. Steel Corp., Mon Valley Works-Clairton Plant. Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, reading and word searches. She will be missed for her quick-witted sense of humor and that contagious laugh and smile that brightened everyone’s heart. She was the beloved mother of Dorothy M. Starr, of Delmont, and loving grandmother of Kirstin Marasco-Starr, of North Versailles (Scott Lynch, of Castle Shannon), and Jennifer Starr, of North Versailles (Kevin Randall, of North Versailles); also survived by her formerson-in-law, Allan J. Starr, of McKeesport.
